Stranded

The wood reliefs, Opossom Memorial, and No Title have chiseled surfaces that are best seen with a raking light. They have a formal order composed of relationships and transitions. There is a theatrical quality to this work; each feature is a player in a visual drama. The drama has been frozen in way that fixes elements in what seems to be a random order but instead represents strong harmony. More than deliberate, the relationships / compositions seem inevitable and are very carefully balanced.

The Wall Brace suggests utility. It wants to be considered for transfer to a different functionality, but it is the illusion of utility. It is not functional. That ambiguity represents an effort to dissolve distinctions between fine art and design . . . i.e., faux function with meaning.
